International Student Program

Programs

The curriculum enables each student to develop to his or her full potential. Personal attention and positive reinforcement foster healthy self-concepts and a sound educational foundation. A student’s course load is tailored to suit their strengths, interests and post-secondary plans.

English as a Second Language

Langley Secondary’s E.S.L. classes have different levels. In this school, we have divided our program into four levels according to the student’s oral and writing skills. Students are admitted on a Full or Integrated ESL basis depending on their level of English proficiency.

Level 1 These students require 3 blocks of ESL and are integrated in Math, Physical Education and Electives.
Level 2 Students at this level are integrated in Math, Science, PE and Electives. They require 2 blocks of ESL instruction.
Level 3 These students require 2 blocks of ESL and are integrated in all other subjects.
Level 4 These senior students have one support block of ESL and are fully integrated in all other subjects

Benefits of a Semester Program

Langley Secondary is on a semester system. This allows students to complete 2 levels of ESL/English in one year. For example if a student is 17 years old, he/she can enroll in both English 10 and English 11 in one school year.

Previewing Courses

Sometimes students like to preview English classes before they enroll in them for credit. This can be arranged by meeting with Ms. Lee before course planning.
